Saw Avatar: Last Airbender. I liked it. Really awesome CG effects and good fight choreography. The story, however, seemed rushed, skipping to the next setting and always having some subtitle underneath telling me what place it was found it annoying. I know it was 1 season packed into a 1hr 40min, but I really wished the writers could have had a smoother transition with the story. It was so segmented, I felt I didn't get attached to anything.
I laughed at the part where there were like 6 earthbenders stomping madly in order to move a tiny stone. I mean it was unreasonably tiny. Also, why are they pronouncing the names wrong! Sokka was Soak-ka, Iroh was (short sound i)-roh.  I was grinding my teeth everytime Katara said Aang with a "Uung". Sometimes I would just misheard her just saying "uuhhh...".
So overall, if you have seen Avatar on tv, you might nitpick several things and complain, but I urge you to see if you like. Don't see it hoping to be exact same as the tv-show, see it with a clean slate or like an alternate universe. Music was nice and the CG was terrific in my opinion.

It was made for those who already know the story, because I don't feel anyone could watch it and understand anything just from the film. They butchered and crippled the whole story and the flow, I agree. The boy for Aang was cute, others could have looked a bit more like the original characters... especially Zuko and his uncle. Nice flying bison, but not involved enough either...

The fact Fire Lord Ozai was a Bollywood Cesar that could not act made my inner nerd rage....Just awful...

I liked the effects but I agree with you on the story. It wasn't the worst film I've ever seen (oh, not by far) but it was pretty mediocre. I didn't appreciate the cross on Aang's back either.

And what's wrong with stretching out a movie beyond the 1hr30min mark? Look at the Lord of the Rings series.

I've never heard of a story of someone walking out on a movie for being too long, and if you go into a movie completely blind, you only have yourself to blame. It's not like Airbender is obscure, either (Didn't become a blockbuster hit either unfortunately).

If it was longer I think they would have enough to not stuff too much in. I wish it was longer.

I find it funny that they packed it into 1.5 hours instead of doing what any other intelligent epic does: 2.5/3 hours.

3 hours is a bit too much though. Have you watched King Kong? It was 3 hours and my eyes were exhausted.

The series weren't premiered on my country's tv, so I'm starting to watch it online. So far I love it, and I'l probably watch the movie just for the same reasons you stated up there: awesome cg and nice fight choreography. I don't know much of the series, but I miss that Zhao doesn't look like the original cartoon, for example.

I know~ Sometimes I got confused when I saw both Zhao and Ozai in the same scene because in the movie they look similar and there wasn't a distinct difference between them. I really liked how Iroh looked awesome in dreads.
