Saw Avatar: Last Airbender. I liked it. Really awesome CG effects and good fight choreography. The story, however, seemed rushed, skipping to the next setting and always having some subtitle underneath telling me what place it was found it annoying. I know it was 1 season packed into a 1hr 40min, but I really wished the writers could have had a smoother transition with the story. It was so segmented, I felt I didn't get attached to anything.
I laughed at the part where there were like 6 earthbenders stomping madly in order to move a tiny stone. I mean it was unreasonably tiny. Also, why are they pronouncing the names wrong! Sokka was Soak-ka, Iroh was (short sound i)-roh.  I was grinding my teeth everytime Katara said Aang with a "Uung". Sometimes I would just misheard her just saying "uuhhh...".
So overall, if you have seen Avatar on tv, you might nitpick several things and complain, but I urge you to see if you like. Don't see it hoping to be exact same as the tv-show, see it with a clean slate or like an alternate universe. Music was nice and the CG was terrific in my opinion.

It was made for those who already know the story, because I don't feel anyone could watch it and understand anything just from the film. They butchered and crippled the whole story and the flow, I agree. The boy for Aang was cute, others could have looked a bit more like the original characters... especially Zuko and his uncle. Nice flying bison, but not involved enough either...

The fact Fire Lord Ozai was a Bollywood Cesar that could not act made my inner nerd rage....Just awful...

I liked the effects but I agree with you on the story. It wasn't the worst film I've ever seen (oh, not by far) but it was pretty mediocre. I didn't appreciate the cross on Aang's back either.

And what's wrong with stretching out a movie beyond the 1hr30min mark? Look at the Lord of the Rings series.

I've never heard of a story of someone walking out on a movie for being too long, and if you go into a movie completely blind, you only have yourself to blame. It's not like Airbender is obscure, either (Didn't become a blockbuster hit either unfortunately).

If it was longer I think they would have enough to not stuff too much in. I wish it was longer.

I find it funny that they packed it into 1.5 hours instead of doing what any other intelligent epic does: 2.5/3 hours.

3 hours is a bit too much though. Have you watched King Kong? It was 3 hours and my eyes were exhausted.

Lord of The Rings is about 3 hours.

The series weren't premiered on my country's tv, so I'm starting to watch it online. So far I love it, and I'l probably watch the movie just for the same reasons you stated up there: awesome cg and nice fight choreography. I don't know much of the series, but I miss that Zhao doesn't look like the original cartoon, for example.

I know~ Sometimes I got confused when I saw both Zhao and Ozai in the same scene because in the movie they look similar and there wasn't a distinct difference between them. I really liked how Iroh looked awesome in dreads.

Toph is going to be deaf instead of blind in the next movie (if there is going to be one).

At the end of the credits they show the Avatar trying to talk to a girl (Toph), and then he realizes that she is deaf. Toph's blindness is everything that makes her, I don't know what M Night is thinking.

A lot of my friends and people online have been saying that. Personally I haven't seen it myself, but from all these first hand accounts I'm pretty sure this happened.

Maybe it only played in certain theaters?

I doubt that they would do that, but I'm seeing it again at a different theater so I'll just wait and see.

The whole name pronunciation thing was M. Night being anal about correct asian name annunciation. Even though these names are being applied to a non-asian cast

Apparently the northern water tribe are white/Norwegian?
Southern water tribe are eskimos/inuits.
Earthbenders are mostly Asian and also black (African) which I found pretty cool and interesting.
Fire nation is apparently Indian.
Air Benders are mixtures? Don't know.

Air Benders look like Tibet monks, don't they?
And I thought Fire nation looked more Chinese-Japanese, ate last for the armors and hair styles, very similar to classic samurais. But you could be right with the Indian influence.

In the movie they are Indian. In the show they are more chinese-japanese and also mayan, if you see the later episode.

I'm afraid I'm still on the 4th episode of the first book, and the movie wont premiere here until august, so I'm only basing on screen captures =P

wouldn't really make it to my top favorites, but it was okay. I just want to see some parts of the movie not the whole thing. I thought dreadlock Iroh was pretty awesome.

So far, everyone I know that's seen it have all laughed at the small crowd of earthbenders having a martial arts seizure just to move a stone the size of a grapefruit. And that was supposed to be a high-action sequence.

What's weird is that my dad got this card from McDonald's with the Kyoshi warriors on it (they don't look anything like they do in the show). I'm just wondering...where the fuck were they?

Exactly. Most of the scenes were muted and had Katara narrating over it. I was annoyed of that part.
